Last night at BSM

July 27, 2015

Happy Monday! Last night at BSM, Rev. Sammie Evans offered us a word about sin as it pertains to 2 Samuel 11: 1-15. She called us to be able to create spaces so that the victims may have a voice, may never be asked to confess how they were violated, and be encouraged and strengthened to become reconciled with the community and with their God. If you would like to listen to it, click here.

Tony and the Motley Order Choir led us in some classic hymns, and also “Love is the Answer” by Aloe Blacc.

We welcomed another group of youth and their leaders for the Youth Initiative. This week we have: Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in Rockville, MD, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, VA, Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown, PA, and Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, MD. Please keep them all in your prayers this week as they serve, worship, grow, and learn!

Every Sunday after worship, we also have community engagement groups. These groups are a great way to get to know people, maybe learn something about yourselves, one another, and/or God, and get to know a few more peoples’ names. This week, Kate led us in Centering Prayer.

In case you forgot your checkbook, you can click here to donate! Please help us create the kind of world we are dreaming of!

Our community offered these prayers:

Pray for my financial situation going into this semester. I have the money but I am worried. I don’t want to worry.

Please pray for ****, that God may strengthen him, give him courage, hope and peace as he deals with many challenges. For ****’s stepdad who is dying of cancer and is going through chemo now. For ****’s mom, for her strength courage and stamina. For my ****, for favor and divine opportunity.

I pray that I continue to receive guidance and comfort when I am blamed for my separation from others, and that I continue to notice that I am receiving guidance and comfort.

BSM isn’t the same without ****. We pray he is safe and healthy and that he knows he is missed and loved by his family here at Broad Street. Prayers for justice and truth to be revealed in the tragic death of Sandra Bland. Enough is enough!

For joy to break through, turning “should” into the fullness of yes, freely given and wholly received.

Lord,

I pray that you continue to speak to me through my daily experiences in Philadelphia. As I go through this summer work experience, I worry about my interactions with youth and people of Philly becoming routine. Break into my life again, Lord, and open my eyes to it.

Amen.

I pray that my mom passes this test she is studying for and can find a job that gives her some stability.

For God’s guidance and gentle hand with my children, ****, ****, and ****.

For **** and **** as they struggle through the experience of the Catholic church’s rejection of gay marriage. Please hold them in prayer.

Prayers for a new job.

I pray people continue to seek hope. Encourage the youth positively. We embrace everything around us.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for all the blessings You have bestowed upon me. Grant me the strength to do the most good as I can, with the tools that you have given me.

Amen.

Prayers for my mother’s health. Prayers for my artistic direction.

God,

I am so grateful to be where you’ve led me.

Help me balance compassion and self care.

Help me let go and focus on my job not Yours.

Amen

I pray 4 all the homeless.

Beloved, please wrap your love around the hearts and hurts of those who have been victims and then who have been victims of shame. May they feel your love now.

Please pray for **** and her family. **** is a young Havertown woman who is mission. Her phone was found at 5th and Tioga. Pray for safety and strength for them. Thank you.

Gentle God,

Continue to embrace ****; Feel her pain, soothe her body and mind, and rest in her soul. Amen.

Lord,

We pray for all those who have been shamed for acts of violence committed against them. Be with the **** family, comfort them. Love me as I try to love you.

For BSM.

For my family.

For a kind Philadelphia.

For Peace of Mind

For youth groups visiting this week.

**** youth program

Grow in numbers

Grow in spiritual depth

Grow in outward service

I pray for strength and peace as I will soon begin processing through difficult overwhelming emotions through EMDR therapy.

I pray for strength to respect my friends’ boundaries and help to maintain meaningful, healthy relationships with them.

Lord, I thank you for the many ways you bring joy into my life, always! I pray for all those who suffer under tyranny’s violence in the mid. East; I pray for their liberation. I pray for freedom from racism for our country. Amen.

God,

Thanks for a great week.

Thanks for inspiring me.

Sustain me while I’m away from home.

Please pray for **** Church and the other 3 youth groups on mission at BSM to be mindful, broad-minded, loving and to feel God’s love this week as well as share it.

Dear Lord,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for ****’s word. Bless all the victims and perpetrators. Draw us near to you and out of hiding. Thank you for our closeness. Love, Jess.

Please help **** with being a single mother and with her adoption process.

God,

I’m unsure what to pray for, there is so much. So, I’ll just pray, please be in the world our world, and help us all to see, hear, feel and know. Amen.

Asking for prayer to fight and see Christ overcome my anxieties and fears.
