Last Night at BSM

June 11, 2018

Last night at BSM, Rev. Raymond Bonwell led us in meditating on Psalm 138. The Psalter (alternative name for the Book of Psalms) is both the church’s prayer book and praise book.  Psalm 138 is a prayer of thanksgiving in a time of trouble. If one finds oneself in “the midst of trouble,” how might one truly believe “the LORD will fulfill the LORD’s purpose for me?” How might the Psalms help?  Let us continue to explore the Psalter for words to express what we are feeling to God who listens and cares and is with us through all the ups and downs of life!

The community offered these prayers to God:

I pray for freedom from anxiety and ease through complicated and taxing events this week.  Thank you.

Dear Lord, this week I give thanks for the life and love of my grandmother.  I pray her suffering is at last over.  Be with my mother and all those who mourn her passing.  Though she was not a Christian, she said she always felt peaceful after attending church.  I thank you for that peace and all the blessings you have given me. Amen.

I pray for: change, change, change, change, change, change, change, change, change.  Amen.

I’m worried about my drinking levels.  Help me remember there is joy in moderation.

Loving God, help me to see your beauty, your grace, your peace in all people.  Guide me through this time of vocational discernment as I follow your lead and call.  Amen.

Prayers for this city.

Dear God, I am blessed. I am aware of all the gifts I have, yet I am struggling with loneliness and lack of continuous community.  Please help peace to come, and help me to recognize it.

I pray that I can approach the upcoming weeks with an open heart and mind, and find my center through prayer and action.
