AIDS
Day A Look Back
What happens when you gather over 20 AIDS organizations under the
roof of BSM to remember those who have died from the AIDS virus,
celebrate those who are living well with HIV and commit ourselves
again to advocate for more funding, education and support…you
get one Philly’s most faithful World AIDS Day commemorations.
It was a day of dance, drama, and music, music and music…(oh
and the Mayor of Philadelphia came too…) to see some shots
of the event, click

CAN
YOU HELP US GROW?????
As 2008 draws to a close and the holiday season bears down upon
us, we have much to be grateful for – even in this tumultuous
economic time. As we look forward to the New Year, we hope that
you will consider making a contribution to Broad Street
Ministry – because we cannot do the work that has
been set before us alone, and because we are all richer for doing
this work together.
Your
generosity enables us to…
- Continue
to grow and deepen relationships between a remarkably diverse
worshipping congregation that is pushing at the seams of our existing
space
- Welcome
more guests and service providers to Breaking Bread-our weekly
lunch that averages over 200 neighbors who are homeless
-
Connect uninsured Philadelphians to quality healthcare through
the Health Initiative
-
Expand BSM's capacity to train and inspire seminarians through
the Seminarian House, a residential internship opportunity for
seminary students who wish to test their capacity for innovative,
prophetic theological leadership
-
Invite teenagers from churches across the nation to the Youth
Mission Initiative
-
Sustain engagement with pressing issues such as the AIDS pandemic,
domestic violence, and prison reform
-
Maintain a relentless commitment to expressing unconditional hospitality
through No Barriers Dinners, artistic collaborations, and educational
programming
-
Plan ahead for our first site-specific musical theatre production
in collaboration with stillpoint productions-DON QUIXOTE-which
lifts off in May of 2009
To
help us continue to be a place where people come together who wouldn’t
ordinarily…please go to…

Video: High School Students Make Change!
Service Learning has become a big part of the life of BSM. High
school students from many high schools throughout the Delaware Valley
come to BSM to learn about the life of the city…its joys and
heartbreaks…its riches and its poverty and how they as neighbors
can participate in all of it. PARTNERSHIP is an elite group of committed
students from Hatboro-Horsham High School who come down once a month
and help pull off Breaking Bread—a shared meal with our neighbors
who are homeless—and the experience yielded this video by
one of the students that popped up on YouTube…and we thought
you should check it out.

BSM
in partnership with Congregation Keneseth Israel present:
A VERY SPECIAL HOLIDAY FEAST ON CHRISTMAS
DAY!
Thursday December 25th from 2:30 to 4:30
FREE!
Many of us get caught up in the excitement of preparing for this
time of festive gatherings with friends and family but as you know,
many people around this time of year feel a profound sense of loneliness
and loss at the onset of the holiday season.
With that in mind, Broad Street Ministry has embarked on an exciting
collaboration with Congregation Keneseth Israel to produce a MASSIVE
HOLIDAY FEAST on CHIRSTMAS DAY @ Broad Street Ministry. We are reaching
out to you for your help in any way you are able. LAST YEAR WE HAD
160+ VOLUNTEERS AND 550+ PEOPLE JOIN IN THE FEAST!!!!
Perhaps
you are interested in:
- EATING
with us and celebrating the holidays in a different way this year!
-
Helping to spread the word among those in your midst who may not
have plans on that day and want to be a part of a community that
will eat together, experience hospitality, and hear some great
music
- Recruit
volunteers who are interested in extending hospitality to those
for whom holidays are more reason to dread than celebrate
-
CONTRIBUTE resources that could make this dinner
even more special--music, flowers, food that people you know might
prepare (pies, casseroles, etc.)
This
feast we hope will become a new tradition @ BSM. Come and join us
and help to make it special!!
Did you know that BSM is building a house?
(for seminarians?)
Announcing a Seminarian Immersion Program
at Broad Street Ministry:
A unique opportunity for service, discernment, and learning the
art of ministry. The program offers an uncommon opportunity for
vocational discernment and formation for ministries, a challenge
to step outside of yourself and into a faith community in Philadelphia,
and a taste of the possibilities for the future of God’s people.
And
people are talking…
To
learn more about it…or to send other seminarians you know
to your site…please go
