Pastors and Church leaders are cordially and intentionally invited to join a select group of their peers at an unconventional Pastoral Leadership Summit November 9-11, 2010 in Center City, Philadelphia. Internationally recognized organizational development consultant, Peter Block, will be joined by biblical seminary professor, John Franke, to be keynote facilitators who will ask the hard questions about what it means to create a structure of belonging in our local congregational contexts.
Along with others who are doing faithful and innovative ministry within both new and traditional contexts, participants will experience a time of creativity, imagination, and dreaming about what it means to build a community based on possibility, restoration and transformation. Influenced by Peter Block's Community: The Structure of Belonging, this gathering will develop a deeper collegiality among those who approach the craft of pastoral leadership with intention and energy. We aim to gather a diverse assembly of pastors to reveal the system at work in their particular contexts, and consider how that system might be re-imagined in light of people's gifts and possibilities. Pastors and church leaders will be asked to be the church in a new way that honors the rich past of church tradition, without being confined to that past.
Conference Leadership Information:
Peter Block is an internationally recognized leader in the field of organizational development whose trend setting work focuses on empowerment, stewardship, chosen accountability, and the reconciliation of community. Block is the author of several best-selling books, including Flawless Consulting and Community: The Structure of Belonging. He advocates leadership through connectedness rather than mandate founding partner of Designed Learning, a training company that offers workshops to organizations around the world. Block holds degrees from Yale University and the University of Kansas.

Professor John Franke
John Franke is the Clemens Professor of Missional Theology at Biblical Seminary in Hatfield, PA. Franke holds degrees from Nyack College, Biblical Theological Seminary, and the University of Oxford . Franke has associated himself with the missional church and Emerging church (EC) movements, recognizing that theologians bring their personal, ecclesial, and professional culture and perspectives to their interpretations. Franke is interested in how these varying contexts interact and impact the way individuals approach Christian faith. He is the author of Beyond Foundationalism: Shaping Theology in a Postmodern Context and The Character of Theology.
Ms. Jill Janov
Jill Janov is an organizational development consultant and former partner of Block, Paterlly, Weisbord, a leading consulting firm in the design and implementation of innovative systems change. Janov trained at The Gestalt Institute of Cleveland and is the author of The Inventive Organization: Hope and Daring at Work.
