I write to you today to tell you that I have accepted the call to be the Head of Staff at Stone Church of Willow Glen in San Jose, CA. This past weekend was spent in conversation, prayer, and deep discernment, and I feel a sense of peace and resolve that God has led me to this decision.
We often say that we are teaching congregation, dedicating ourselves to teaching young pastors how to proclaim the gospel, be the church, and advocate for social change. We do this through the lens of radical hospitality and with a deep hope that our values will seep out into the world, bringing about radical change and creating a world that is more beautiful and good for all. I truly believe that together we have lived into this aspirational truth. You have nurtured me, guided me, taught me, and loved me, and it is because of the time I have spent with all of you that I feel fully prepared to take this next, very bold step.
The PNC provided an update on Sunday and led a forum for discussion and processing. During that time, they shared with folks that they have been interviewing supply pastors to provide stable pastoral care and worship leadership while they continue their search for a permanent pastor. They will provide another update in January concerning the pulpit supply pastor and have committed to providing monthly updates to the congregation during worship. I will stress that this process takes time, so please be at peace, trust your PNC, and know that God is moving in all of this. The PNC has been doing this work so incredibly faithfully and diligently this past year. Please continue to pray and support them.
We will have the next few weeks to say goodbye, be with one another, pray for one another, and prepare for what’s next. My last Sunday will be December 31, 2017, where I pray we can celebrate the work we have done together this past year and proclaim some wild hopes for the future. My schedule is wide open between now and the end of the year, so please contact me to get together. I love you all so very much, and I will miss you greatly, but I know and firmly believe that great and godly things are just on the horizon for BSM.
Grace and peace be with you,
