A Playful Life Workshop
May 8, 2017

June 4th and 11th, 530-630 pm
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” -Rev. Fred Rogers
Join Kara Castle, MSW and Rev. Michele Ward for two workshops that explore the intersection of spirituality and psychology in the form of play. The focal texts for this workshop series will be Jurgen Moltmann’s A Theology of Play and Ken Evers-Hood’s The Irrationality of Jesus.
The importance of play, especially for adults in Western society, is not only an afterthought—it is usually not a consideration at all. Theological and psychological frameworks for play and its necessity exist. Social norms relegate play to children or those interacting with children, insisting that play is bound up in age and stage. God is creative and playful, and has imbued these characteristics within the very fabric of humanity. Come celebrate or recover your playfulness through games, conversation, and discovery.

Unknowing
A Poem By: Michele Ward
The journey starts with downcast heads
the unseeing eyes that miss
the moment obscured by the lost
dream and the unknown
the stranger and his questions
he tells them his story because
it is theirs
their story on the road
at the table
in the breaking of their unknowing
eyes see beyond the bread
to the breaker, to the one
who was broken
