Announcing a Faith & Doubt Spirituality LGBTQ Group at BSM

January 28, 2014

This spring, Broad Street Ministry’s Pastoral Associate Rev. David Norse is convening a faith and doubt spirituality group for particularly vulnerable Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer & Questioning (LGBTQ) young people.  The project, funded through The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, builds upon the unique observations of Edd Conboy, BSM’s Director of Social Services.

40% of young people in the United States experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity are LGBTQ, and many engage in “crimes of survival” to support themselves, including prostitution.  This population has been historically underserved by other agencies. Over the years BSM has become a trusted place for many LGBTQ people, and events where Queer individuals can explore their faith, doubt and spirituality have been some of the most meaningful experiences, for participants and staff.  If you are interested in supporting this group, volunteering, or helping to spread the word, please contact Rev. Norse at david@broadstreetministry.org.
