April Volunteer Spotlight: Stephanie Abbott

April 11, 2022

We’re thrilled to announce Stephanie Abbott as this month’s volunteer spotlight! Stephanie has been a Center City resident for 8 years and found her way to Broad Street Ministry after she retired from a career in education. Throughout her career, Stephanie has sought out volunteer opportunities and supported organizations that focused on providing direct services to vulnerable populations. When Philadelphia began to reopen after the initial shut down, she felt eager to start volunteering her time and we’re lucky she chose BSM.

“I am very fortunate to be in a position to be able to volunteer,” she says. “At BSM, the experience has reinforced my commitment to give back.” Stephanie volunteers in all of our direct volunteer services, and we know it is going to be a good day when we see Stephanie’s name on the list.

One day while volunteering, she and a guest realized they shared the same birthday. This interaction reminded her that connections can start with just a hello. Now, Stephanie makes an effort to connect with all members of our community, from staff and guests to other volunteers.

Beyond her time at BSM, Stephanie enjoys a good puzzle and board games. We cannot express enough gratitude for Stephanie! We are lucky to have volunteers like her choosing to spend their time with us. Thank you for being an incredible volunteer, Stephanie!

“The volunteer process is extremely well organized. The need is great. The most important reason is that BSM provides services that aren't provided elsewhere. Being a small part of the radical hospitality is rewarding and fun!”
