BSM’s New Garden Initiative
July 8, 2016

BSM’s Garden Initiative is in full swing! Congregants are gathering every weekend to garden in South Philadelphia. We are growing tomatoes, carrots, radishes, kale, rainbow chard, and an array of herbs. This garden is already proving to be very lush and productive, as we have offered 20 pounds of produce to the Hospitality Collaborative!
Rev. Sammie Evans is working with the weekly Youth Initiative participants at Beacon Church to provide garden education to the kiddos of Beacon. All of the plants and soil was generously donated from the Men’s Bible Study at Newtown Presbyterian Church, and the garden is growing quickly!
The Garden Initiative is a new program that Sammie and the congregation launched at the beginning of 2016. This is an opportunity for the faith community to garden in their own neighborhoods, grow as discipleships and as a community, and offer ethically sourced produce to the Hospitality Collaborative.
