Aldine Chef to Support Broad Street Ministry’s Largest Fundraiser
George Sabatino, chef and owner of Aldine, announces today that he will be the Celebrity Chef at Be Our Guest on October 19, 2017. This is Broad Street Ministry’s largest fundraising event to support the individual needs of the City’s most vulnerable neighbors.
In looking forward Broad Street Ministry’s 2017 Be Our Guest event George shares, “I’m excited by the idea that the values of hospitality and integrity are held at BSM as highly as they are at Aldine. I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to create something special at Be Our Guest.”
Last year BSM debuted Be Our Guest – an interactive evening with stories of impact and change complete with a fantastic dinner party, live and silent auctions. This event sold out in just three weeks and welcomed in 250 investors, artists, long-time stakeholders, new friends and change-makers of Philadelphia. Tables were scooped up by individuals, groups of friends and corporations including Allstate, PECO, PHLCVB, Armor, and ZipCar.
While items as seemingly small as a new pair of socks were auctioned off, there were also moments of auction paddle spectacle as Chef Mike Solomonov & Steven Cook took the stage to surprise guests with a dinner cooked at home with special guest Chef Marc Vetri.
Chef Seibel shares, “Be Our Guest was an amazing event in 2016 and I honestly think 2017 will be even better. When I hear the name George Sabatino or about his restaurant, Aldine, I think of simple, local ingredients that have jumped into the Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole and come out transformed. When you look at a plate, you don’t just see food – you see George’s focus, technique, and passion. George creates an experience with food that is extraordinary in taste and aesthetic. We’re thrilled that George is bringing his art to us at Broad Street Ministry, and I’m extremely excited to be able to work alongside such a culinary pioneer in Philadelphia.”
Chef Seibel and his team bring joy to others through their creative expression of love and compassion through food. Working together, the BSM team produces 7 meals a week in a unique manner. This operation has no RSVP system nor turns any guest away due to capacity. At BSM there is always enough. As Head Chef, Steven’s greatest accomplishment is the growth of his team and the honor of serving BSM’s daily guests.
George Sabatino’s rise in Philadelphia has been nothing short of stellar, as the chef worked in the trenches at Fork, Monk’s Café and Ansill before joining the Marcie Turney/Valerie Safran partnership on 13th Street at Lolita, Bindi, and Barbuzzo, and then landing his first role as executive chef at Stateside.
It was at Stateside that Chef Sabatino began to show the city his true talent, landing the Best of Philly Best Restaurant Award in 2012. As well as “Best New Chef of 2012” by Inquirer Food critic Craig Laban.
In October of 2014, he and wife Jennifer Sabatino opened Aldine, a second floor perch in the Rittenhouse neighborhood of Philadelphia. Aldine’s New-American style cuisine features a locally-sourced, ingredient-driven menu where everything is made in house, from butter, bread and pasta to cheese and charcuterie.
Currently, Aldine has 3 bells from Inquirer food critic Craig Laban, 3 Stars from Philadelphia Magazine, is on Philadelphia Magazine’s “Top 50 Restaurants” List as well at the much acclaimed “Eater 38”. Aldine was also awarded a 2016 “Best of Philly” award for “Best Vegetables in a Non-Vegetable Restaurant”.
