Thanks for Spreading the Love With Us!
March 14, 2017

Valentine’s Day 2017 marked the 9th anniversary of Broad Street Ministry’s Breaking Bread meals. Our first meal was served in 2008 to roughly 50 people alongside co-located social services. By late 2012, we had expanded to three meals per week and had formally established the Hospitality Collaborative. Today, the Hospitality Collaborative is serving 7 meals per week alongside critically needed social services to an average of 200 to 350 guests per meal.
It seems fitting that the anniversary of Breaking Bread should fall on Valentine’s Day. Here in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection, we know that love extends far beyond the world of romance. So why shouldn’t Valentine’s Day be about loving your neighbor?

This year we decided to honor the Breaking Bread Anniversary by embracing all the cute red and pink hearts that Valentine’s Day has to offer and launching our “Spread the Love” campaign. We asked you to make a donation in your loved one’s honor, and in exchange we sent them a Valentine message on your behalf. It was a lot of fun for us to play Cupid for you, and in the process we raised over $1,000!
Last year we served over 76,000 meals to our guests and this year we are projected to serve over 80,000. These meals are accompanied by life-stabilizing services such as art and music therapy, a mailing address, personal care items, and access to a clothing closet, just to name a few. Every act of love you support us with helps us realize these goals, so thank you for helping us Spread the Love this Valentine’s Day!
