Last Night at BSM

Last night, Rev. Sammie Evans preached from Mark 4:35-41. This text tells us of a time when Jesus and his disciples found themselves in a mighty storm. The disciples became very afraid and woke Jesus, who immediately calms the storm and reprimands the disciples for their fear. In her sermon, Sammie proclaimed that the storm actually never had the power to sink the disciples’ ship. They were in danger of perishing, however, because of the way they reacted to the storm. They were professional sailors, but in this moment of panic, they forget who they were. They forgot that there was still work to be done. They began running to and fro, rocking the ship and welcoming in even more water. We are a people of faith, called to be calm and hopeful even in the midst of hostile, violent storms.

Tony and the Mötley Order Choir led those gathered for worship in Florence + The Machine’s Shake It Out, Wade In The Water, Precious Lord, Take My Hand, If You’re Out There by John Legend, and Beyoncé’s Freedom.

The community offered these prayers:

Please pray for me that I may work to organize and be responsible in my finances (I want to glorify God)
**** turns 25 this Friday (8/19). Please pray that this year may be a powerful one; that she may grow in wisdom and faith with God and man.

 

God-
Be with my mother, she is in the hospital, difficult as she can be, she has had much pain and suffering in her 89 years. She has done her best and given much. She is also hilarious. I pray for her. Amen.

 

Dear God,
Help me to stay on feet—literally and figuratively. I am becoming addicted to technology—I fear I need your help as I try to make better choices re:tech use. Help me please. Amen.

 

I pray for **** and his family as they mourn the death of their brother/son. Comfort them. I pray for **** and his job. Give him peace and get him through this time.

Thanks for getting me through today. Though I was anxious, it actually felt really good.

 

Loving God-
I see the light coming. Give me the energy to keep pursuing it.

 

Please remind me that you are here with me.
Please be with my sister and help her discern her future.
