Volunteer Spotlight: Westminster Presbyterian Church

September 11, 2018

This month we’re highlighting a group that has been giving to Broad Street Ministry since the beginning! Westminster Presbyterian Church, in West Chester, has spent their time, energy and funds on making sure that our guests are presented with fabulous hospitality when they walk into the building.

As long-time dedicated volunteers, the congregants from Westminster make the long trip to Philadelphia every month, often bringing with them donations for our Clothing Closet and Personal Care Pantry. They have participated in and created numerous projects at BSM, ranging from painting the Sunday School Room to donating much needed backpacks to sponsoring Women’s Day by sewing and preparing bags that were filled with goodies.

In addition to all of the support that they offer BSM year round, Westminster Presbyterian has been crucial each winter season. They, along with some of our other church partners, help out our winter café by making and bringing soup and casseroles all winter long for guests staying overnight at BSM! This is an immense help to our kitchen crew and overnight staff.

They are currently further supporting our efforts in the kitchen by bringing herbs that they have grown in their community garden to our kitchen almost every week. Says Chef Stephen, “We have used their herbs on a pretty much daily basis. It’s been really great as they grow a wide variety of herbs, many of which we would not typically bring in. They have been used in garnishes, sauces, marinades, and just as a great way to impart some fresh flavor to our dishes.”

Thank you Westminster Presbyterian for always going above and beyond for our guests! We could not do it without you!
