Worship At Broad Street Ministry

Stewardship Season in the BSM Worshiping Community

All through October, BSM’s resident worshiping community has been examining God’s generosity and making plans for some of their own: the first ever congregational stewardship campaign.  Andy Greenhow has been preaching on God’s generosity throughout scripture and small groups on Sunday and Wednesday nights have focused on how God has shown great generosity in various ways.  On November 1st, the congregation dedicated pledge cards and made promises to be a generous community in 2016.  We are so grateful to the worshiping community at BSM for their faithfulness and look forward to a great 2016.

Exciting New Wednesday Night Faith Community Programming

All are invited to join the faith community for new programs every Wednesday evening from 6:15-7:15pm.  In October and November, we’re offering three different options, described below.  If you have any questions, be in touch with Pastoral Associate Julia Watkins at watkins@broadstreetministry.org.

Spiritual Practices: All are invited to gather to learn about and practice Centering Prayer, which is a contemplative method of silent prayer.  Together with leaders Kate Sheehan Roach and Julia Watkins, we’ll explore ways to deepen our connection with God, others, and our inner selves.

Finding Your Voice: This is an open call for anyone who wants to sing or play an instrument in worship.  Come for an opportunity to work with our seminarian/musician John Francis on vocals and worship leadership.

Make Us Brave: Learning from Ephesians: We’re making our way through the New Testament book of Ephesians, a letter that was written to an early church community about God’s generous action through Jesus.

Broad Street Ministry Welcomes Challah for Hunger Into Our Kitchen!

If you’ve been in BSM’s kitchen on a Sunday morning in 2015, you might have run into a crew of fabulous young people covered in flour braiding and baking challah.  That would be Challah for Hunger, a Jewish campus organization that “brings people together to bake and sell challah to raise money and awareness for social justice.”  CfH has been volunteering at BSM, baking challah in the kitchen, and raising support for BSM – and we love having them.

Loren Shatten, Program Director at CfH, says, “One of the pillars of Challah for Hunger is community building – not just in the Jewish community, but in the wider community, too.  I really see that same commitment at BSM, especially from the staff; we feel very welcomed in the kitchen and in the space.  We think BSM’s work is incredible and love sharing it with our community and our students.”

You can learn more about Challah for Hunger or sign up for a challah bake in the future at challahforhunger.org.  Check out this [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJJvlzdz5Fc&feature=youtu.be] video from Challah for Hunger’s Philadelphia Summit, featuring lots of great shots of BSM’s kitchen.
