Sweet Sixteen Party at BSM

November 25, 2013

overhead shotNothing is as sweet as gratitude.  A young woman from one of our partner churches decided not to spend an extravagant amount on her Sweet 16 party, as many do on the mainline, but instead to give back to BSM.  Ellie Utter celebrated her 16th birthday by donating and painting 16 new chairs for the sanctuary which is also known as our Cathedral Dining Room.  Ellie said,

“For my “Sweet 16″ I couldn’t think of anything more enjoyable than a day of service with my friends. I had been to Broad Street a few times before, and since the beginning it has kept a special place in my heart so deciding to do the project here was an easy choice. Once the day came, 16 of my friends and I boarded the train to Philly, bringing a slew of miscellaneous chairs with us. We spent the day painting chairs and by the end, everyone was filled with Broad Street’s infectious feelings of acceptance and love. In the end, the chairs couldn’t have been more diverse, but everyone left excited about hopefully coming back soon.”  Ellie Utter, Wayne Presbyterian Church.

Ellie has already made her way back to BSM and we are hopeful many more young people like her will think of BSM as a place to serve, give and be received.
