Thou Mayest

Rev. Sammie Evans preaches on Mark 7: 24-37. A woman, who was not part of Jesus’ ethnic group approached him looking for healing. Jesus instead of offering healing, told her that the bread for children should not be thrown to the dogs. The woman however, responded to Jesus by saying, “Even the children eat the crumbs under the table.” This response changed the course of Jesus’ ministry. Now instead of only focusing on the people in his community, he made an intentional effort to reach out to those not like him. What this story teaches us is that the crumbs could have been enough, but Jesus was willing to cross boundaries to extend an extravagant welcome to those different from him. Who is that person or group of people different from you that you can extend an extravagant welcome to?
