Last Night at BSM

February 11, 2016

Last night, we held an Ash Wednesday Service and heard a word from our Pastoral Associate for Enfolding Julia Watkins from, Joel 2:1-2, 12-17 entitled “A Time to Make Some Noise.” Julia preached about how the people of Israel in this passage needed a disruption in their lives because they weren’t living as God had called them to live. They needed a noisy disruption to pull them away from their practices of injustice. We too hear the noisy disruption of God to return to the path that God has called us to. This is an act of repentance, which is much more than just saying “sorry.” It involves us taking a hard look at our lives and then responding.

John Francis led us in: I Want Jesus to Walk with Me, Come on Up to the House, Kyrie Eleison, Nothing but the Water, and Precious Lord Take My Hand.

Our community also offered the following prayers:

Give me the strength to overcome my weakness.

 

Dear God—please give me the strength, wisdom, and inspiration to continue to grow and heal! Amen-*****

 

Pray for ***** and her dog *****, as their 12-year relationship nears its end as a result of *****’s terminal cancer. May ***** relish her last moments on earth and may ***** find joy in her grief.

 

I need more me time without people always wanting me to look their way all the time to me who cares about you to me I never would understand the new youth or generation fall back cause I work and nothing adds up to the lifestyle of Philly nothing good that’s all not my place or time. bless.

 

I have many beloved friends but still long for the deepest connections…they feel both behind me and in front of me at the same time—but always out of reach.

 

May I find my voice without fear. May we laugh and cry together.

 

For the homeless. For ADH. For BSM. For a call to action. For *****. For Philadelphia—may it be kind!

 

Prays for my friend who I hurt and rejected and won’t speak to me any longer. Really needs God in her life.

Thanks for the unconditional support of the team, God. Keep me mindful of my limits, and help me to know when I’ve done all you’ve called me to. Help us welcome every person in this room.

 

I need to chill out. No beer. No gossip. Walk more. Amen.
