Last Night at BSM

October 19, 2015

Last night, Rev. Andy Greenhow brought us a word from Amos 5:8-15,18-24. This was the third Sunday of our stewardship series where we are seeking to respond generously to God’s generosity to us. Much like today Amos faced the issues of a massive gap between the rich and the poor, and the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Amos sought to critique the religious practices of the day that thought God could be worshipped, while injustice was rampant. Amos called for justice and mercy, along with the worship of God. Amos also proclaimed the Day of the Lord would be when all are equal, and all are cared for, especially the poor, the widow, the orphan and the oppressed. The Day of the Lord would be good news for those who are oppressed in an unjust society, and not so good news for those who benefit in an unjust society. Our calling is to begin to practice and enact the Day of the Lord, where equality and justice are carried out. You can listen here.

Tony and the Motley Order Choir led us in: Oh Give Thanks, Glory Glory Hallelujah, If You’re Out There, and Love is the Answer.

Our community also offered the following prayers:
