Last Night at BSM

October 26, 2015

Last night, Rev. Andy Greenhow brought us a word from Luke 12:13-21, entitled, “We are Not Going to Need a Bigger Boat.” This was the fourth Sunday in our stewardship series where we seek to respond generously to God’s generosity toward us. We live in a culture that likes excess. As the People of God, we trust that in God there will be enough. If that is true, what are we to do about homelessness, mass incarceration, the wealth gap, poverty, and hunger? As the people of God we are to make God’s promises that there will be enough true for all people. We have a part to play in making sure God’s promises are kept. This means we can actually do something about homelessness, mass incarceration, the wealth gap, poverty and hunger. We are enough, and we have enough to be a spiritual home for people, provide food, clothing and mail here at Broad Street Ministry. You can listen here.

John Francis and the Amen Corner led us in: Ain’t No Grave, Amazing Grace, The Power of the Gospel, and Hem of His Garment.

Our community also offered the following prayers:

I am thankful for so many blessings!

Pray for Pope Francis—because he always asks for prayer. Pray for Rep. Paul Ryan—if he becomes Speaker of the House, he’s taking on a near impossible job. Pray for hearts to change among our elected leaders. Pray for my job search, yet to be concluded. Pray for the children and youth of BSM, they are few but have needs specific to their developmental stages. Pray for the employment staff of BSM, they work very hard for the benefit of many.

There’s so much to pray for in this world. I have a simple prayer. I pray for the abundance of the simplest things in life for us all whatever that may be. For at times we forget simplicity.

I am thankful for the people I have in my life, and I pray against the fear that I don’t have enough: enough time, enough love, enough meaning.

That I would believe that I have enough. That I am enough, especially when I don’t feel it. And the same for my partner, who is struggling, and I worry could be depressed.

I’m listening see how good I’m doing? Help me keep listening and speak (I love to listen to your voice).

You know what? I’m pretty sure its going to be fine.

Loving God, Embrace *****, ****** and her brother, ******, *******, and ****** with your loving presence. Give them strength, peace, and grace now and always. Amen.

Prayers for those struggling with confidence. Prayers for the care givers. Prayers for the money holders.

I pray to have enough and to be enough, because right now I don’t feel like I do or like I am. I pray not to be afraid that I won’t be loved.

Be with the LTSP community.

Prayers for my anxiety about paying for school. That I can trust God in deploying my resources, instead of hoarding them. That I wouldn’t put so much pressure on myself to save up my money—even if I have to spend more on school than I want to, I will be ok. There will be enough. Trying to believe this.

Dear God—Thank you. I pray today for my family—all of them—especially my mother, my sisters, my brothers—who have suffered much. My son, my husband and my elderly father. Also, I pray for ******, that her brain tumor be halted in its growth, for a long time. Amen.

Please pray for my school applications to go well. Thanks.

Thanks be to God for colleagues who live and work and care with integrity.

For my father. For me. For ******. For you. For her.

Not doing great. Frustrated, angry, and impatient.

Prayers for the people of St. Louis—7 churches burnt and destroyed of various religions.
